
These webpages describe my doctorate research work carried out during the period of October 1999 to May 2003 at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University College London, United Kingdom. The work was carried out in the Computer-Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) research group, which is part of the Centre for Process Systems Engineering, located at Imperial College London and University College London. The PhD viva was successfully conducted on 12 September 2003.
Batch distillation is a widely used process unit operation, and is becoming increasingly important especially in the high-value low-volume fine and speciality chemical, biochemical, pharmaceutical and food manufacturing industries.
The general aim of this project is to gain further understanding of the optimal configuration, design and operation of different batch distillation systems by:
